The Datejust rightfully holds a place among the most successful in the watch market. With a long and storied history spanning decades, this entry in the Crown’s lineup has seen more variations and updates than anyone can seem to fully capture in one place.
The longer you spend researching and watch hunting, the more obscure and unique examples you can find. so much so that even veterans come across watches today that they’ve never seen!
The “160XX” generation launched in 1977 and brought in a number of updates - most importantly the addition of a “quick-set date” feature, allowing users to adjust the date without having to manually turn time forward and slip into the future. This was incredibly helpful for those who hadn’t worn it for a few days and would have to spend ages winding through the hours.
This generation also did away with the so-called “pie-pan” dial in favour of a totally flat dial, and saw the movement updated to the Calibre 3035. This generation would see life until 1988 so a fairly long production period, but not one without its own varied range of options!
This example is a 16013, which carries all of the above benefits, but was offered with a luxurious champagne dial, and a two-tone “Rolesor” case combining steel and 18k yellow gold with a fluted bezel. Plenty of “flash”, but made somewhat more modest by the elements of steel throughout making it more subtle. Better still, this example has diamond hour markers for that extra dose of class - not that this watch can get much classier! Presented in excellent condition with its full set of box and papers plus our 3 month warranty.
