The Submariner 5513 is a true favourite and grail among vintage collectors and Rolex enthusiasts alike, owing to its incredibly long (nearly 30 years!) and varied production run, resulting in a large number of changes throughout its cycle. It is well known for collectors even to seek out all variations of this model for their collection!
The 5513, along with the 5512, is known best for the introduction of crown guards to the Submariner line. The two references are often coupled together as they are essentially the same watch, however the 5512 was equipped with a chronometer-certified movement whereas the 5513 was not - with Rolex aiming to make it a more “affordable” equivalent. What this does mean, however, is a lot less text on the dial resulting in a very desirable “minimalist” example of the Submariner dial.
The 5513 was also the last no-date submariner to feature an acrylic crystal and a bi-directional bezel.
This example dates from the last year of the production run, thus featuring a gloss black dial rather than matte, and applied white gold hour markers filled with tritium lume rather than gilt markers. Being more recent, it naturally is presented in excellent honest vintage condition with moderate, very attractively aged lume markers.
It is unlikely that another example in such stunning condition will reach the Channel Islands for some time, jump on this quickly and don’t miss out!
